Pro Bono.

Independent.

Keeping You Focused.

We’re a small team of independent journalists, artists, and other mostly hand-to-mouth freelancers providing pro-bono coverage of happenings on the ground in NYC (and sometimes Long Island, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Rochester, or other areas). Events and incidents we’ve covered often center around issues like racial and social justice, migration, human rights, labor, climate, privacy, policing, and the many intersections thereof.

Since May 2020, our visual and written reporting has been featured in dozens of publications (that we know of), including some of the most prominent outlets in New York and ones based around the world. We used to be known, display name-wise, as NYC Protest Updates, but changed our name to our Twitter handle in 2021 to avoid confusion in a few ways. In 2022, we shortened it again to a phrase that (roughly) summarizes our political stance: PRO_NYC.

We also used to put out a newsletter in 2020–21 and hope to upload the archives and resume the letter soon.

We’re always looking for new contributors, collaborators, comrades, supporters, and information.
